Frequently asked questions
| Which audience is Phoice for? | | |
Phoice is intended for everyone who has the need to share photos online and wants to share those in an easy and quick way. Whether
you are a professional photographer, a serious amateur photographer or a home photographer, feel free to join and share your
photos through this medium.
| |
| When I upload photos, do I need to resize them to a specific size before I upload them to Phoice? | | |
No, Phoice will resize your images to 4 different formats: One large preview (780 pixels at the longest side),
one medium preview (320 pixels), one thumb preview (100 pixels) and one square thumb preview (40 pixels). There
is no need for you to resize your images up front, however keep in mind that large files take longer to upload.
| |
| How many photos can I store in my account? | | |
Phoice resizes each photo itself and makes 4 versions of it (large, medium, thumb and square thumb). Combined these
photos will use an average of 170KB. With a basic account you get 50MB of free diskspace which means you should be able to
store more than 100 photos. With a VIP account you get 1000MB of diskspace which allows you to store more than 3,000 photos.

| I am a basic member. Can I participate in running collections? | | |
Yes you can. Any member can participate in running collections (so called Runners). Every member can participate with a
maximum of two (2) photos in every runner.
| |
| Can I protect others from seeing my photos on Phoice? | | |
Yes you can. Photos within protected collections
will not be displayed on the generic Phoice pages. Pass the password to anyone you like and it will open up the
collection.
| |
| Do I lose my copyright once I upload a photo to Phoice? | | |
No, never. What is yours stays yours. Phoice will offer you a platform to store and show your photos. Copyright will
remain the sole property of the respective owner. Keep in mind that you are only allowed to upload photos to your Phoice
account for which you either have the full copyrights or have the explicit permission of the owner to publicly display
them on the internet.
| |
| Am I allowed to link my Phoice photos in forums? And how do I show a photo that is stored on Phoice on third party forums? | | |
Yes, you are allowed to link your photos in external forums. With a Basic account you are allowed to use 200MB per month for
direct linking (external linking). If you are a VIP member you can use up to 2GB of bandwidth per month. For normal use
this will be hardly possible to consume. Keep in mind that these numbers only apply to external/direct linking; viewing your
photos on Phoice will not be deducted from your available bandwidth.
To link your photos on a forum open the photo's details in your Phoice Control Panel. Do this by clicking any thumbnail in your
Control Panel. Within the details you will see two link field with the exact address you should use for direct linking. Copy the
content of one of those fields to the Windows Clipboard. Now paste it in your forum's posting/message. Optionally read the forum
its manual for how to create an image link. Most forum software require you to place the shortcut within tags; e.g.
.
| |
| Is Phoice color aware (color profiles)? | | |
Yes. When you upload images that are stored in AdobeRGB or an embedded color profile, Phoice will convert these images to sRGB
automatically. sRGB is the most average color profile and is the best option for displaying images within Internet Browsers. There
is no need to convert your images yourself up front.

| How do I add smileys to my comments or photo descriptions? | | |
You can add smileys to your comments or photo descriptions by typing the smiley in text-format. A well
known example is the simple smiling smiley :). When Phoice displays this smiley, it will show it as the
smiley-icon . Currently we support the following smileys:
| :) | smile | | | :-) | smile | | | :( | sad | | | :-( | sad | | | :'( | cry | | | :,( | cry | | | :G | good | | | :B | bad | | | :@ | angry | | | :o) | clown | | | :o | oops | | | :O | eek | | | :D | laugh | | | :-D | laugh | | | ;) | wink | | | ;-) | wink | | | ;o) | wink | | | :? | huh | | | 8) | cool | | | 8-) | cool | | | 8^) | cool | | | :$ | shame | | | :p | tongue | |
| |
| I always store descriptions inside my photo files as IPTC info. Will Phoice save me the trouble of re-entering all descriptions again? | | |
When you use an IPTC tool* to describe your photos than Phoice will read use this information to fill your photo's detail information.
There is really no need to re-enter it all again. If it's there then it will be used. When your photo files contain IPTC-keywords then
those will be translated to Phoice labels automatically. Of course you can change everything in your Control Panel.
* Examples of IPTC aware tools are: Photoshop™, idImager™ iMatch™, and many more. Please contact you vendor
when you are not sure if and how to store IPTC info to photos.
